Buying points for the Grand Wailea

Three nights at the Grand Wailea on a Hilton award, after buying points on sale.

In September 2025 I stayed at the Grand Wailea on Maui. September 8 through 11. Three nights, a Terrace View king. I booked it as a Hilton Standard Room Reward, 110,000 points a night, 330,000 points for the stay.

I bought those points during a sale. The sale was about a 2:1 deal. That’s how I remember it, not a price I’m going to publish. At the normal price for points I would have skipped the hotel. At about 2:1 I bought what this stay needed and attached the points to it.

I’m leaving the sale name and any cash price off this page. I also don’t want a confirmation number on a public page. The rate I care about remembering is the award rate. 110,000 points a night. 330,000 for three nights. Points bought on a sale, about 2:1.

The “about” is doing real work. I remember the shape of the deal, not the checkout screen. I’m not going to reconstruct a price per point and publish it. The public version doesn’t need what I paid. It needs the rate I booked, which is in points, and the fact that a sale is what made me pull the trigger.

The rest of the trip is on the Maui page. Alaska through San Diego, a rental car, and a Redline Rafting trip on September 10 out of Kihei, around Molokini Crater and along the South Maui coast. Home was a red-eye on September 11, OGG to San Diego, upgraded to First.

What I remember about the booking is the shape of it. I had the hotel, the dates, and a points price I could see. A sale showed up. I did the rough math, bought the points, and booked. I didn’t buy a stash to sit on. I bought for this stay.
