Two 9-inch rounds
Ingredients

Steps
Cake
- Mix the dry ingredients. Mix the wet ingredients separately.
- Combine, then mix in the hot coffee.
- Bake at 350°F. The original recipe says 35–40 minutes for two 8-inch pans; check doneness earlier for 9-inch pans.
- Cool fully before frosting.
Frosting
- Cook the flour and milk together until thick. Cool completely (the family card says to refrigerate).
- Separately, beat the butter, Crisco and sugar.
- Add the cooled cooked mixture and the vanilla; beat for 10 minutes until fluffy.
- Frost between the layers, on top, and around the sides.
My notes
- The winning combo is a 2× cake with a 3× frosting. That fills two 9-inch rounds plus roughly 12–24 cupcakes.
- I don't measure the vanilla in the frosting; be generous.
- I haven't recorded exact bake times for 9-inch rounds or cupcakes yet, so start checking early.
